I make it a habit to do a full tape backup of everything I have every six months or so. Those tapes are deposited into a safety deposit box at the bank.

The rest of the time, I just rsync to remote machines with the ocassional tape dump I keep at home.

Just an idea.

Yeah, it's mostly audio. A little bit of video from my Cannon DV cam. I have one FW drive and one SCSI drive for tracking. Then a big 60GB FW drive solely for backups. That way I can throw everything into the 60GB and keep re-formatting the tracking drives without worry.

Hmm... hope that's not confusing. :) Works for me.

a cheaper way than investing in tape backups: borrow tape drive from me. it got one that works with macs, too.

errr. or something. most of the tech notes on their support site were about os x. firewire->scsi driver crap or something.

is some of that audio, Jim? i need to re-format my hard drives pretty soon, and i'm scared to death of something going wrong and losing some irreplaceable recordings ... though i think Vie's stuff is all safe.

perhaps i should invest in tape backups.

it was foggy up on the peaks. :( no meteor shower for me, either.

still haven't figured out an appropriate pseudonym. ;) i'd use my last name or something, but i don't want it out there on the net.

I recently broke the 100+ GB barrier. Frightening. That's more data than any human being should have.
